Helfrich’s No. 8 surrenders two aces

Helfrich Hills’ eighth hole, a par-3 playing 170 yards, gave up two hole-in-ones during Saturday’s opening round of the 85th annual Evansville Courier & Press Men’s City Golf Tournament.

The first went Craig Maier, who used his ace to card a 1-under par 34 on the front nine on his way to a 2-over 73.

The second went to one of the younger players in the field, North sophomore Eric Brinker. Oddly enough, it was the third competitive ace for Brinker this year.

The ace helped Brinker to a 3-over 74, which was the top score among seven Brinkers in the field.
